School of Russian Ballet. Singapore
Rules and Regulations

ADMISSION:
School of Russian Ballet. Singapore (SORBS) welcomes all students with the desire to dance. Students are accepted with or without previous dance training. SORBS admits students of any race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, national or ethnic origin and does not discriminate on the basis of such in administering its admissions policies and course programs.

REGISTRATION PROCESS:
All applicants seeking admission to the SORBS Dance Programs are required to complete the registration process. This process includes completion of the Registration Form, review and signature of Terms and Conditions Form, payment of the Registration Fee (non-refundable), payment of the selected Course’s package payment (non- refundable) and payment of deposit (50% of the first Package fees, refundable, see ‘Withdrawals’ section below) .

PROMPTNESS:
Because dance requires great concentration and focus, it is difficult for both the individual and the group when a student comes in late. We understand that being late is sometimes unavoidable, but it needs to be minimized. It is important to remember to allow time to change clothes and use the bathroom before class begins. Dressing rooms are provided. The lobby can’t be used as a changing room. It is not safe to dance without warming up. Therefore, any dancer arriving more than 15 minutes late may be refused to enter the class.

ATTIRE:
All students must wear their specific dance attire to their various courses. Please refer to our website for their various attire requirements. Proper dance attire and shoes are MANDATORY for safety and the overall well-being of the student’s dance education. An instructor reserves the right to dismiss a student from class after one warning. Please respect our policy, it is to benefit the students and allow them to become the dancer they desire to be. We do not recommend that you share dance shoes, it is not good for sanitary reasons and does not ensure proper fit of dance shoes.

All children’s and junior’s programs require a SORBS uniform of leotard, tights, and shoes.

HAIR: All students are required to wear their long hair neatly tied up in a bun.

RECEPTION AREA: Our school recommends that parents and siblings do not linger in the reception area once you drop your child for class. It makes it very noisy and disruptive for your child attending class as well as our staff trying to conduct business at this area.

MOBILE PHONES CALLS:
Please make and accept your phone calls outside the school and keep our reception area private and quiet.

FILMING AND PHOTOGRAPHY: NO photography or videography are allowed during lessons, unless specified by the teacher.

LIABILITY:
SORBS shall not be liable in any way for injuries sustained during attendance at the ballet school or any of its related functions, such as recitals as well.

LOSS AND/OR DAMAGE OF PERSONAL PROPERTY: SORBS is not in any way liable for any loss or damage of personal property and belongings, injury, disability or death incurred or suffered by student(s) while utilising the facility, during the lesson(s) or at any activities organised by SORBS such as, but not limited to concerts, performances, award presentations, class activities and other special events.

ATTENDANCE:
Regular attendance is important. Excessive absences or lateness to class will impede progress. Students are expected to attend all classes except when ill or injured. If a class is missed, make-up can be scheduled in a different class.

Please inform us of planned or unplanned absences as soon as possible. Classes that do not require a daily signup must give notice at least 6 hours before the start of class if absence is not due to illness. For classes that require a daily signup: if you sign up but later need to remove your name, give us at least 6 hours’ notice before the start of class. SORBS reserves the right to mark credit as used if insufficient notice or there’s not medical certification is given.

When scheduling a makeup class, please speak with your or your child’s dance instructor to decide which class would be best for you/ your child and schedule the class with the office. You can schedule a make-up class during our regular weekly classes. Make-up classes are required if the student misses class and wishes to maintain their progress, and to keep the package not expired with existing credits. It is recommended that the make-up classes are scheduled as quickly as possible. Students must make-up the class in a level of equal or lower difficulty. Upon arrival, please check-in at the reception desk to confirm your attendance.

Note, for Kids 1, 2, and Pre-Ballet: Makeup for this level of children’s classes can be done during the validity of the package, or maximum within two weeks after package is expired. These makeup classes cannot be done during their normal class period. They can be done as a makeup class at the same level at a different time. This must be organized in advance.

In the event of an absence, please notify the SORBS office in advance at:

tel: 97328077 / 64665363 or 9771 8235 / 6253 0803.

PACKAGES, CREDITS and VALIDITY PERIOD:

Credits that are not spent within the allocated term period will expire and cannot be used or recovered, except for children’s program class (Kids Ballet 1 and 2, Pre-Ballet. See ‘Attendance’ section.).  There will be no extensions of term periods due to travel, work conflicts, or other scheduling issues. The only exceptions to this no-extension rule are the summer holiday period and the official SORBS school closure period.

RECITAL: The recital will be held annually. Dates of this event will be advertised 6 months in advance. Tickets will be available at an assigned ticketing agency and will have to be purchased online.
