About School of Russian Ballet. Singapore

Under the leadership of  Founder / Academic Director Mrs. Elena Kanevskaia –  Russian  Prima Ballerina , Choreographer  and former Artistic Director and Balletmaster of a professional ballet company, SORBS’s international  dance faculty consists of skilled, professional  Russian , Singaporean, Japanese, Korean Teachers with the years of experience in the Dance Education and Performing Arts industries.

Premier School of Russian Ballet. Singapore (SORBS) was established in 2012 as a unique institution, specialising in pre-professional  dance education for Children, Adults  based on the world recognised Russian “Vaganova “ professional ballet educational curriculum.

From August 2018, SORBS opened the doors to its second Branch.

Students of SORBS are able to participate yearly in professional quality ballet productions, created by a strong team of Choreographers from the faculty of the school.

The ballet performances are shown to Singapore audiences and performed on the prestigious stages of  Victoria Theatre, Capitol Theatre, Gateway Theatre.

School of Russian Ballet. Singapore provides annual examinations on Ballet (Vaganova Method) , Character Dance and Jazz Dance Classes after which, our students are awarded  with the Local and International Certifications.

A team of the talented students have been undergoing consistent  training and have participated in  local and International Dance Competitions, representing Singapore abroad and becoming finalist and winners.

Local & International Collaborations

SORBS have also organised and collaborated with local and international Art Establishments:

*Organised a series of ballet master classes by stars of Russian Ballet in collaboration  with Esplanade Theatres by the Bay (2018).

*Provided teaching courses and lectures for Dance and Theatre departments at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. (2013-2018)

*Organised International  trips and participations in the world renowned Dance programs and Seminars  at Vaganova Academy Of Russian Ballet St. Petersburg. Russia (2016 -2019).  

*Provided Training courses and choreography classes in collaboration with Singapore Gymnastics National Team Singapore (2018-219).

*Intensive training in Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. St. Peterburg. Russia.

OUR TEAM

Elena Kanevskaia

Founder/Academic Director

Originally from Minsk, Belarus, Elena is from a dynasty of ballet dancers, actors and movie directors. She began her Music studies at age of 5 years old and professional Ballet studies at the age of ten at the Belarusian State College of Choreography which she graduated from in 1989 with Diplomas in Classical Ballet, Folk Dance and Dance Teaching. Since that time, she has been employed as a professional ballerina, choreographer and teacher. In 1992 she found the first private professional Dance Theatre under the management of State Belarusian Philharmonic Associations. Over the next 12 years she was the company’s principal producer, artistic director and prima ballerina. By order of Belarusian Ministry of Culture in 1994 Elena was awarded with highest professional ballet qualification. Elena’s company productions toured all over the world until she settled in Singapore and extended her career as a Teacher, Lecture and Choreographer here.

From 2003 Ms. Kanevskaia took up the position of Ballet Mistress and Head of the Ballet Department at Dance Circle Studios. Singapore. At the same time Ms. Kanevskaia was invited be part time lecturer and to conduct classes in disciplines such as – Advance level Classical Ballet (Russian school), Ballet Repertoire and Point Work, European Period Dances and History on Europe in connections with the Arts, Character Dance, Physical Theatre and Body Conditioning classes – at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts : Dance and Theatre Departments and Lasalle College of the Arts : Dance and Musical Theatre Departments, where she has been teaching for almost 10 years now.

Elena is the one of a very few exponents in Singapore of the internationally renowned Russian Vaganova Classical Ballet Method. She also specialized in European Folk Dances, Character Dance and European Period Dance courses. Combining her unique 25 years of professional dance experience with educational programs that she created (based on the Russian professional dance educational curriculum), hundreds of students were exposed to her methods, studied the art and gained diplomas and degrees here in Singapore. Many of them have been awarded the highest prizes in international dance competitions and have been employed by top professional dance and theatre companies in Singapore and abroad.

Alexandr Savitski

Senior Teacher

Belarusian Premier Ballet Dancer, Producer, Artistic Director and
Choreographer.
Specialization:
Classical Ballet, Folk Stage Dance, Modern, Jazz & Jazz-Modern Dance,
Contemporary dance, Coach-Choreographer for the Rhythmic Gymnastics.
Education:

Specialized Diploma in the Ballet and Folk ensemble dance and Pedagogy.
* Awarded the qualification: Ballet dancer of high degree. Ministry of Culture

Bachelor’s Degree of a faculty of aesthetic education, majoring in “World and
National Culture. Rhythmic. Choreography”.
Career and Experience:
Alexandr has more then 25 years an experience in the Performing Arts and
Education Industries.
*Ballet Dancer (Soloist) at Sate Dance Ensemble of Russian Navy.
Kaliningrad. Russia.
Performing tours in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Baltic Countries: Lithuania,
Latvia, Estonia; Finland, Germany, Belgium, Poland.
* Ballet dancer (Premier) at the Belarusian State Honored Choreographic
Ensemble “KHOROSHKI”. Minsk. Belarus.
Dancer and lead choreographer for the several dance performances of a
Ballet group, mainstream national shows, Sate concerts.

Solo performances in the Kremlin, the Bolshoi Theatre, Tchaikovsky Hall.
Moscow, Russia.
Over 14 years Alexandr was a Producer and Artistic Director of his own art
company – Performing Dance Theatre “SASH”. Minsk. Belarus
The company was on tours and performed abroad in the countries such:
Japan, UAE, Turkey, Bulgaria, Thailand, China, India, Mexico, Guatemala,
Belize, Macedonia, Guyana, Cyprus, Malaysia.
*From 2013 Alexandr became a Coach (Choreographer) of The National
Rhythmic Gymnastics Team of Belarus. Minsk Belarus.
*Trainer in the Republic Olympic Training Center. Minsk. Belarus.
2018- Present Senior Dance teacher at School of Russian Ballet. Singapore.

Anastasiia Sogrina

Full Time Teacher

Direct From St.Petersburg. Russia.   Mrs. Anastasiia  was invited  to join SORBS team as a strong expert in Vaganova Method .

Mrs. Sogrina graduated  with  Master of Arts Degree (Honours)  in  (Choreography/ Pedagogy) from The  Leading Ballet Institution of the World – Vaganova Ballet Academy (2017 – 2020).

Bachelor in Performing arts, Vaganova Ballet Academy (2003 – 2012)

Teachers: Elena Zabalkanskaya, Marina Vasilieva, Vadim Desnitskiy, Tatiana Udalenkova, Altynai Asylmuratova.

Her Ballet Career was started in  The Mariinsky Theatre (2012-2019) St. Petersburg. Russia
